The government of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says 'the enemies of the nation' are fomenting post-election riots across the country.

"Our enemies and their media have hired some opportunist and mischievous elements and have misused the simple-mindedness of some people to cause unrest," the government said in a Thursday statement.

It further accused the Western foreign media of 'spreading lies and rumors' to create doubts over the health of Friday's presidential election.

Iran's European Union envoy criticized the Western countries for their "support for these trouble-makers and anarchists under the cover of supporting democracy and the voice of the Iranian people".

In a Thursday statement, the Iranian embassy in Brussels said, "All foreign involvement will have a damaging impact and is rejected by the people and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran".

Incumbent Ahmadinejad was re-elected as the Iranian president on June 12 with almost two-thirds of votes, but his main rival Mir-Hossein Moussavi has rejected the result as fraudulent and demanded a re-run of the election.

In the statement, the Ahmadinejad administration called on the security forces to take measures to uproot vandalism and the frightening of the public.

Hundreds of thousands of Moussavi supporters have staged daily rallies since the announcement of election results on Saturday, asking the Guardian Council to nullify the election.

Despite Moussavi's insistence on the peaceful nature of protests, violence flared in early stages of demonstrations. At least eight people were killed in Tehran and many others sustained injuries.

Iran has revoked all foreign media accreditations and foreign reporters are not allowed to cover gatherings which are banned as illegal.

Moussavi's camp has stressed that the post-election rioters are "not supporters of, or linked to" the former prime minister, who suffered a crushing defeat in the June 12 poll.

The Moussavi camp says that a number of "miscreants" are attempting to de-fame the popular figure and his supporters "by conducting acts of vandalism" in his name.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has also shed light on the situation. The Leader said on Tuesday that those who vandalize public property and stage violent riots are not related to any of the presidential candidates or their supporters.

On Thursday, dozens of Ahmadinejad's supporters staged a rally in front of the Justice Department in the capital, Tehran. They also called for strong action against the rioters.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah delivered a speech on Wednesday to honor the party's electoral machines in Lebanon.

Speaking through a large TV screen, Sayyed Nasrallah thanked the people who voted for the resistance choice and thanked the electoral machines for their remarkable efforts during June 7 parliamentary elections.

His eminence said that the national opposition's goal was to obtain a parliamentary majority "in order to carry out reform plans, this, however, has not been achieved," he acknowledged.

Sayyed Nasrallah said, "A rumor was circulated in the media and in some private meetings that Hezbollah did not really want the opposition to win the parliamentary elections and that is why the party did not exert all its efforts to win, because it feared the post-election period. My direct answer is all this not true. Hezbollah worked seriously and cooperated with its allies, making every effort domestically and regionally. But there were reasons and factors why we did not win."

Hezbollah Secretary General added that the party feared winning in the elections, because of the responsibilities, saying, "We always live up to our word."

OPPOSITION STOOD FAST IN THE FACE OF A GLOBAL WAR
Sayyed Nasrallah said, "During the electoral campaign, the opposing camp launched a smear campaign, and they did not take into consideration any moral standards. However, we did not do that, because we have our religious and moral standards, which prevent us from adopting such methods."

His eminence said that June 7 elections took place under US, Western and Arab "intimidation in an effort to impose their options that may not coincide with the Lebanese will," stressing that the opposition did not lose its status, however it has stood fast in the face of a true global war: lies, money and America.

Sayyed Narallah also said, "We dealt realistically with election results. We were not shaken because we are still where we were, and nothing has changed concerning us," confirming that the opposition enjoys a "popular majority," while the parliamentary majority is a "reality under the electoral system."

Turning to the issue of vote-buying, Sayyed Nasrallah said: "There is no equality of opportunity between the March 14 and the opposition regarding the issue of brining in expatriates, particularly with regards to money. The expatriates were a decisive factor in some of the electoral districts in Lebanon,"

He added, "What is humiliating is buying votes in some districts and especially in Zahle, which was the decisive district that tipped the balance in favor of March 14. Witnesses say that the prices of the votes reached $2,000 or $3,000. Prices increased with the approach of the closing of the ballot boxes. This means that election results are contested, and we will follow up on election violations through the law, and not through sit-ins, blocking roads or demonstrations."

He interrupted himself to tell the pro-government parliamentary majority jokingly: "I advise March 14 (forces) not to interfere in the Iranian elections because this is an issue that they don't understand."

THE BIGGEST INSULT TO THE SHIITE CLAIMING IT IS A DEAF BLOC
Sayyed Nasrallah noted, "The most dangerous aspect seen in the elections and the country was the religious, racist and sectarian provocations. We are not weak to respond to such provocations. This kind of rhetoric was used during the elections and after it. The Shiite and Armenians were the direct target of such provocations."

His eminence said, "The Armenians were suddenly considered foreign subjects in Lebanon, because of their political choices, although, they were naturalized more than a hundred years ago. Also, the talks about the Shiite ruling Lebanon are misleading and wholly untrue. All what we want is true partnership."

He said, "The biggest insult to the Shiite was to say it is a deaf bloc, which does not think or discuss or feel, but its followers go like herds to cast their ballots. This is an insult we do not accept. The Shiite in Lebanon are not only sect; they are represented by more than one party, and they have many intellectual trends and orientation. If the Shiite in Lebanon abandon their choices, then the West, the US and the rest of the world would change their approach toward them."

"Our popular bases did not need religious obligations to vote, and Shiite expatriates paid for their tickets to come home and vote for their choices. They voted to tell Israeli leaders that the Resistance is still in their conscience and minds, and it runs in their veins. The Resistance is a project that we all have achieved, and we did not import it or impose it on anyone. It is our choice, and the choice of our ancestors and descendants."

"Talks of discussing the weapons of the Resistance in the national dialogue sessions and away from the public is certainly a good position. To those who talk about wanting guarantees and securing stability, I tell all the Shiite and Lebanese everywhere that you are the guarantee. As I respect the will of the Shiite voters in some districts, also, this should be the case in all districts in Lebanon. Those who are heading to Arab countries and telling them that the [electoral results] in the Bekaa and the South, in the Southern Suburb and in Baabda are based on money do not know that it is about culture, beliefs and the public mood," Sayyed Nasrallah said.

He added, "Regardless of the way we count the ballots and read the election results, we can say for sure that the opposition has the popular majority, and no one can say that he talks in the name of all the Lebanese, thinking that his majority represents the popular will of the Lebanese people."

On the question of a new government, the Hezbollah chief said: "We were a forgotten, neglected and excluded. All we seek is true partnership," adding that the opposition wants Nabih Berri to be re-elected as Speaker.

SAYYED NASRALLAH DEMANDED AN EXPLANATION FROM SFEIR ON HOW THE OPPOSITION WIN WOULD HAVE THREATENED LEBANON'S ARAB IDENTITY
Sayyed Nasrallah criticized Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir's statement on election eve and pledged to follow up on voting violations in a peaceful manner.

Sfeir, and in a clear violation of the electoral law that forbids any electoral statement within 48 hours before the elections, had said on the eve of the June 7 elections that Lebanon will face a threat to its entity and Arab identity should the opposition win. "National duty calls on all of us to be aware of what is being planned. We must work hard on thwarting all attempts that, if successful, could change the face of Lebanon," Sfeir has said.

Sayyed Nasrallah demanded an explanation from the patriarch on how the opposition victory would have threatened Lebanon's Arab identity. His eminence said: "I did not see how Lebanon's entity would have been threatened if the opposition won."

He also wondered whether the opposition was more dangerous than the Israelis. "Throughout the eighties and the years that followed, I never heard the patriarch talk about threats to the Lebanese entity," Sayyed Nasrallah said.

He recalled that during Sfeir's presence in Bkirki, "we have seen Israeli massacres and aggressions and he never spoke of threats against the Lebanese entity. We never heard the patriarch warning against Israeli attacks. It is shameful that the patriarch did not view the Israeli dangers as a threat to the Lebanese entity."

Regarding the Arab identity, Sayyed Nasrallah went on to say, "I believe that the opposition, Syria and Iran are all Arabs," stressing that Iran was no longer Persian.

Hezbollah Secretary General also called on the brothers in Hezbollah to address the Patriarch's concerns and propose suggestions in which we should strengthen the Arab identity of Lebanon and demanded that Sfeir support that in a public statement.

Sayyed Nasrallah concluded, "We demand the majority to fulfill the promises it made when announcing its electoral agendas, and we will work to fulfill all the promises we made during our campaign."

He also demanded national and formal response from the Lebanese state to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech, saying "what is happening in the region is a US-Israeli plan; there is scheme with a clear division of roles between the US and Israel to deceive the Arabs yet again. We should defend our country against what is being plotted for the region, and we should cast aside all skepticism and rumors to confront regional dangers, which include a possible relocation of the 1948 Palestinians to Lebanon."
